Epimerisation during activation produces a diastereomer that is mass-identical and only chromatographically separable. At this gradient length the separation exists, and 99.93 % is net of it.
pt141_one_da
On compounds with a one-dalton neighbour, a mass error of this size is genuinely consequential and not merely untidy. This is not one of the ambiguous pairs, but the principle is why the index caps status rather than passing the record.
Where two catalogue compounds elute within half a minute of each other, mass is the discriminator and a mass you cannot trust leaves nothing. Retention at 7.38 min is doing more work on this record than usual.
